Donor Data Privacy and Internet Security Policy
United Way of Kaw Valley values the trust its donors place in the organization and adheres to the highest standards in gathering, using, and safeguarding donor information. This includes all of the donor’s personal and gift information.
The Information We Collect
When you choose to give to United Way, you complete an Investment Form which requires you provide United Way with your name, address, email address and other relevant information.
United Way will not rent, trade, sell, or share any donor information.
Access to the Information
United Way employees and key volunteers who may access your information are prohibited from disclosing your information to third parties except as herein stated.
If a donor designates all or part of their contribution to a funded partner or another United Way, their name, contact information, and donation amount will be shared with that agency unless marked “anonymous”. Vendors that provide operational or other support services to United Way must also agree to safeguard your information in strict compliance with privacy policies.
United Way may use and disclose personal information we collect when required to do so by law.
Lawful Basis for Processing Your Personal Information
The laws in some countries require us to tell you about the lawful grounds we rely on to collect, use, disclose, and otherwise process your Personal Information. To the extent those laws apply, our lawful basis for processing your Personal Information is in support of our legitimate interests, where those interests are not overridden by your fundamental rights and freedoms.
We process Personal Information because it furthers our legitimate business and charitable interests. These interests include:
- Providing a safe user experience on the Site;
- Responding to inquiries and communicating with you;
- Processing donations and transactions;
- Processing employment applications;
- Analyzing and improving our operations (e.g., optimizing the design and operation of the Site);
- Managing legal issues.

- The right to request from United Way of Kaw Valley access to your personal data, and the rectification of inaccurate personal data concerning you.
- The right to obtain from United Way of Greater Topeka the erasure or the restriction of processing of your personal data in certain circumstances, including when the data are no longer necessary in relation to the purposes for which they were collected or otherwise processed, except when United Way of Greater Topeka is required by law to maintain or otherwise process your personal data, for the establishment, exercise, or defense of legal claims, or for the protection of the rights of another person.

If you are within the European Union, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority, in particular in the Member State of your habitual residence, place of work, or place of an alleged infringement of the applicable data protection law. If you would like to submit a data access, correction, restriction, or deletion request, you can do so by contacting us at privacy@uwkawvalley.org and we will process such request with respect to any Personal Information that we are able to link to you individually based on the information that you can provide to us. These rights and options that you have with respect to Personal Information are subject to limitations and exceptions under applicable law.
Your Participation is Voluntary
Your relationship with United Way is voluntary and confidential. United Way uses your information to send you acknowledgement of your investment and information you may find of interest about United Way. If you do not wish to receive such communications, you may opt out at any time by contacting United Way. Every email message received from United Way will include instructions on how to unsubscribe.
Our Commitment to Data Security
To prevent unauthorized access, maintain data accuracy, and ensure the correct use of information, United Way has procedures in place to safeguard and secure all information collected. Firewalls prevent outside parties from accessing various databases and internal United Way access to the database is restricted to authorized individuals.
Updates or Changes to this Policy
